"Back of this wine is the vintner
And back through the years of his skill,
And back of it all are the vines in the sun and the rain and the Master’s Will
Vintner’s Ode"
Dr. Thomas is always reaching out to experiment and learn new techniques in the winemaking process. He focuses on making wines that have richness, dimension, elegance, and texture. He believes that wine is a complex beverage that should be served with food in a variety of different atmospheres. Chateau Thomas customers are drawn to richer, more intense styles and we plan to continue making our wines with concentration and individuality.
While the well-decorated history of Chateau Thomas wines and their founder, Dr. Thomas are too numerous to mention all of them, two wines were included in the "100 Best Wines East of the Rockies in 1999", and one wine received the Corning Cup for the best red wine at the International Eastern competition. Chateau Thomas Winery has also been awarded with four Governor's Trophies at the Indy International Wine Competition (the nation's second largest international wine competition) as the best winery in Indiana and in 2008 received the award for the Indiana Wine of the year, with its CDP. Chateau Thomas wines have been served in the Governor's Mansion, to the President and the Vice-President of the United States, at the National Democratic Governor's Conference in Washington, D.C., and was the official wine of American Trans Air Airlines. Chateau Thomas Wines were the only wines served to 130 attendees of a Grand Banquet for the Confrerie des Compagnons Gouste Vin de Normandy held in a 300-year old Chateau in Rouen, France. In 2009 Dr. Thomas was inducted into the Renaud Society, an International Society of Medical Professionals who study wine’s enhancement of health and specifically how it reduces the risk of heart disease when enjoyed in moderation. He is a member of many wine organizations of the United States and France.
The wines of Chateau Thomas are available in over 200 retail locations in Indiana including wine shops, grocery outlets, and some of the finest restaurants. (Find Our Wines)
Our Grapes: Chateau Thomas produces all its wines from Vinifera (old world) grapes harvested from the finest vineyards in California, Oregon, and Washington State and continues to strive to produce the fine wines. These grapes, after harvest are chilled to 34° then shipped to our winery in 1-ton bins by refrigerated trucks within hours of being harvested to ensure freshness. When the grapes arrive at our winery at Plainfield they are then crushed and the fermentation process begins.
